Hi,

Please have a look at my website with some newly
added video's/links about TETRA (BOS Digitalfunk)

www.tetrascanner.com (in the Tetra video section)

A total of 10 video's are now available:

"C2000" a promotion video about The Netherlands Tetra network

"FUNKLOCH" About the German situation (Germany will have to decide very soon now)

"AIRWAVE" A promotion video about the UK Tetra network.

"PULSING" A 1 hour 34 minutes public debate about the "possible health effects" from Tetra.

"PROTEST" A very short video about protesters against Tetra-masts in the UK.

"PROBLEMS" About all kinds of problems in the rollout of C2000 (Tetra Netherlands)

"AGREEMENT" Austria and Germany agree to have a bordercrossing compatible network (2003)

"GSM-BOS" Vodaphone-Germany has developed a modified GSM system for the B.O.S.

"CRIMINALS" Dutch police admit that Tetra is detectable.

"No BORDERS" German police will get more powers to operate in The Netherlands.

The last 4 are "new" and i like to make some remarks to the issues:

..................

"AGREEMENT" shows that Austria (Tirol) and Germany (Bayern) have agreed (2003) to have a compatible radio network so security forces from both sides can communicate directly with each other...

They also speak about having it all ready before the "world football championship" in 2006 in Germany...wich is absolutely impossible.

The interesting and amazing point here is that Austria already has decided for TETRA while Germany still has to decide(correct ?)...how can you agree on a compatible network when one of the 2 (Germany) has not decided yet ?

..................

"GSM-BOS" is generally being put down by the Tetra-industry...what else can you expect ...that's called competetion.
But if you look at this presentation of GSM-BOS (wich is a modified version of standard GSM) it is not that bad at all and most requirements are fullfilled...like:

Short time to set up a call: i understand now that once a (first) connection is made the rest of the call is "realtime" since the speech path will remain open for a while
(similar to a repeater wich has been keyed up)

Group call: Available

Encryption : Available up to 100 bits ! keylength

Network security: Available (needs some work)

Disabling of certain subscribers: Available

Power backup: Available

Temporarely need of more channels: Available

Interoperatability between networks: Available

Additionally you get lower cost (existing facilities) and much quicker implementation also the investment in radio equipment would be much lower (using slightly software modified GSM phones)

DMO: not available !..but a "Dual mode" radio that does both Gsm for TMO and Tetra for DMO already exists.

...................

"CRIMINALS" about the fact that Tetra is detectable using a simple wideband detector tuned to the Tetra frequency-band(380~400Mhz)...or a modified scanner.

Both could be used to be alarmed that the police are on their way or in the neighboorhood.
It can not distinguish between police and firebrigade or other Tetra users.

The fact that you can not actually understand what is being said (encrypted) is of no importance.

The Dutch police have now admitted this fact and this was *BIG* frontpage news in The Netherlands.

The Ministry of internal affairs advices "special" users to inhibit the transmitter by using a special button called "TX Inhibit" if this is switched on the Tetra radio can only receive thus avoiding detection, ofcourse this reaction caused a laugh because such an action would make things unworkable.
Another solution would be to use Gsm wich is detectable also but a police user wont "stand out in the crowd" since there are to many Gsm users (in The Netherlands 12.000.000 Gsm / 70.000 Tetra) so such a detector for Gsm would be useless.

Every radio-transmitter is detectable there is nothing you can do about that...
When setting the requirements for the new digital networks
for "public security and safety" the issue of "detectabilty" has not been mentioned or forgotten.

In 10 years we will have a new system called "Ultra Wide Band" (UWB) wich can be compared with "Spread Spectrum" such a radio system will use such a very wide frequency range(1~10 Ghz) and 10 times lower power-levels that it is almost impossible to detect since a detector would "hear" all other transmissions.

.....................

"NO BORDERS" A new agreement will alow both the German and Netherlands police to operate in each other territories with much more powers then before.

For example the German police may now collect DNA evidence from a Netherlands citizen while in the Netherlands (wich the Netherlands own police can not do for certain crimes)
Also long-time observations can now be carried out much better then before (Schengen treaty) and are not limited to distance or time anymore.

In general the German police can now do certain things in the Netherlands that not even The Netherlands own police can do !! this is caused by differences in the local laws.

A wellknown lawyer says in this video that this new situation is not OK and it will result in unwanted situations that will cause many problems in a court of law.

The new Tetra radio-networks in both countries (C2000 and BOS Digitalfunk) will make it a lot easier to carry out these operations since they are interoperateable/compatible.
